The final shoe has dropped on Jose Mourinho’s second stint as Chelsea manager. Multiple reports, including the BBC, say that Chelsea has sacked Mourinho after a terrible 4-3-9 start to the season resulting being in 16th place and one point above the relegation zone going into the halfway point of the season. This happens just seven months after Chelsea won the Premier League title in dominating fashion.
In his last game as Chelsea manager, against surprising EPL leaders Leicester City on Monday, Mourinho seemed to go completely off the rails. A manager who usually blamed other things like referees and the media for Chelsea’s struggles, threw his players under the broken bus he has tried to park. Mourinho credited Leicester for deserving the win and feeling “betrayed” that the Chelsea players didn’t adopt his tactics in the game. He also pointed out Eden Hazard simply walked off after getting injured.
It’s completely shocking that Chelsea has gone off the rails like this. Before the season started in August, nobody would have expected stat lines like this.

Now that Mourinho is gone, Chelsea will be going after another high profile person to lead the team. That may be a bit tough considering it’s the middle of December but if we know anything about Chelsea, anything is possible.

When Mourinho left the team in 2007, not many expected him to be back. Now that he did and he has been sacked, maybe third time will be the charm in about five years. Reports already surfacing that Guus Hiddink will serve as Mourinho’s replacement in the role of caretaker manager.

Rumors are already swirling about where Mourinho will land next, everywhere from Manchester to the United States.
UPDATE: Chelsea have released a statement confirming the reports.
Chelsea Football Club and Jose Mourinho have today parted company by mutual consent.
All at Chelsea thank Jose for his immense contribution since he returned as manager in the summer of 2013.
His three league titles, FA Cup, Community Shield and three League Cup wins over two spells make him the most successful manager in our 110-year history. But both Jose and the board agreed results have not been good enough this season and believe it is in the best interests of both parties to go our separate ways.
The club wishes to make clear Jose leaves us on good terms and will always remain a much-loved, respected and significant figure at Chelsea. His legacy at Stamford Bridge and in England has long been guaranteed and he will always be warmly welcomed back to Stamford Bridge.
