The New Orleans Hornets signed their rookie duo of number one overall draft pick in the 2012 NBA Draft Anthony Davis and first round draft pick guard Austin Rivers.
As the first pick in this summer’s draft, the 6-foot-11 Davis receives a three-year guaranteed contract worth a little more than $16 million, with just over $5 million paid in the first year.
Rivers, a 6-4 guard picked 10th overall, receives a three-year guaranteed deal worth nearly $5.9 million, with nearly $1.9 million paid during his rookie season.
The addition of Davis and Rivers pretty much was a no brainer but add to the Hornets’ youth movement and overall roster revamp heading into next season.
With Davis and Rivers signed, they will join Eric Gordon (making a Gordon, Rivers guard duo perhaps one of the best up-and-coming backcourts in the NBA), Ryan Anderson, Xavier Henry, and Al-Farouq Aminu making New Orleans a rebuilding team but a team with a strong nucleus heading into the future.
Though it is clear New Orleans is in a rebuilding phase, with Davis as the cornerstone of the Hornets’ future getting valuable experience with Team USA, and Rivers in the fold and participating in the Summer League, fans of the Hornets will have something to look forward to heading into next season… despite the drama with Gordon.
