Making my decisions on fast food is frequently based on the beverages offered at the restaurants. For example, there are many times I go to Taco Bell primarily for a Mountain Dew Baja Blast. I’ll sometimes pass on Panda Express in favor of a place that I don’t like the food as much, just because the other place has Coke products instead of Pepsi (and going back and forth between the places or stopping by a gas station or vending machine is too much of a hassle, let’s be honest).

And many times I’ve been swayed to get McDonald’s so that I can enjoy a delicious Hi-C Orange Lavaburst.

Well, that will not be an option for much longer, because McDonald’s is getting rid of Hi-C Orange beginning May 1st, according to a memo posted on Reddit. Hi-C Orange may still be available for a bit longer than that, as McDonald’s restaurants have been told to keep selling the drink until it’s gone. But after July, the drink will be gone for sure, at least unless enough people are complaining enough to make McDonald’s change their mind (more on that later in the post).

McDonald’s is replacing Hi-C Orange with some surely not-as-good drink called Sprite TropicBerry in July.

The fast-food giant is also giving a bullshit reason on Twitter for why they’re getting rid of it. This answer has been sent out many times to unhappy followers:

Evolving the menu is fine, but what’s the point of evolving when it’s actually a product people like? Would you get rid of Chicken McNuggets, Big Macs, and fries just to change it up? (No. And yes, I realize Hi-C Orange isn’t quite as popular as those items, but you get the point.)
