Twinkie and Sno Ball ice cream

Twinkies have seemingly come and gone in the news every other month. The last time we wrote about the famous sugary snack was in August, when Walmart announced it would be selling deep fried Twinkies.

Well Twinkies are back in the news and in supermarkets again, only in a different form: ice cream. That’s right – Hostess has rolled out Twinkies and Sno Ball ice cream.

The news of these flavors coming back into the marketplace has actually been around for a while. In December, Nestle and Hostess announced they would be bringing back the two flavors, plus Cupcake ice cream, temporarily.

The announcement also came with this little bit of crucial info:

“A Nestle spokesperson in Washington, D.C., said Hostess ice-cream pints will be available in mid-February at Dollar General and in convenience stores between February and May, based on the stores’ own schedules.”

You know what that means…race to your nearby convenience store NOW to get your hands on Twinkie and Sno Ball flavored ice cream before the flavors disappear once again.

With Twinkie and Sno Ball ice cream coming back, here are some other snacks we’d like to see turned into ice cream:

  • Sour Patch Kids – This one would be tough because ice cream is usually sweet, so how would they incorporate the sour aspect into it?
  • French Fries – This is really obscure, but french fries are delicious. While it sounds gross at first, this flavor would probably FLY off the shelves in the United States.
  • Skittles Ice Cream – Another popular candy that many people already put in their ice cream. However, imagine an ice cream that already has the flavors mixed in? You could even make a flavor of ice cream for each type of Skittle.
  • Cracker Jack Ice Cream – I was looking at a baseball calendar and thought of this one. Since there is already peanut butter ice cream, this only makes sense as one of the other popular snacks people get at sporting events.
  • Salsa Ice Cream – Chips and salsa or guacamole is a classic snack you can find at most tailgates or sports parties. Why not combine salsa and ice cream? Ice cream with a little kick doesn’t sound too bad, but this ice cream also probably wouldn’t be sweet.
