Telltale Games has landed another key title to its impressive roster. Marvel Entertainment will be joining forces with the independent game company to create a Telltale Series based on the wildly successful Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.

Here’s a look at the teaser released during Thursday night’s The Game Awards:

It’s unknown whether the game will be directly based on the Guardians of the Galaxy films or comic books, but the former is more likely considering the movie’s immense popularity and cassette player tease. Regardless of the game’s source material, seeing Marvel enter the realm of the popular episodic, decision-based games is an exciting development.

Telltale Games has become a giant in gaming, developing series based on Minecraft, Borderlands, Batman, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones and Fables. Each series has almost more story elements than gameplay elements. The games are equivalent to Goosebumps’ “Choose Your Own Adventure” series, as you’re constantly forced to make decisions that can impact the rest of the game.

Marvel launching a game with one of its most successful, diverse brands is a no-brainer. Telltale Comics used DC and Image Comics properties to create unique, entertaining gameplay. Considering the expansive universe of Guardians of the Galaxy, there are endless possibilities of where they can take the story.

If anything, hopefully, this is the start of a fruitful relationship between Marvel and Telltale. I’d be more than OK with a Daredevil, Ghost Rider or Luke Cage game. Heck, it’s encouraging to see Marvel create games with a good developer. Guardians of the Galaxy: A Telltale Series could be the company’s first great game in more than a decade.
