Here’s a moment Nintendo fans have been waiting years for – the newest Legend of Zelda trailer.
Nintendo held its Nintendo Treehouse-live press conference at E3 today and longtime fans of the Legend of Zelda series finally got new details on the next title of the iconic franchise.
The next Zelda game will be called The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The game was supposed to be released in 2015 on the Wii U but has long been delayed and will eventually be landing on both the Wii U and the NX system in 2017.
Nintendo released a trailer for the game and it looks absolutely stunning as we’re shown the lush forests and landscapes of Hyrule. Given the proposed graphical updates of the next console, it’s Link like we’ve never seen him before.
While the game still has dungeon puzzle elements like the games of the past, Breath of the Wild is going to be the first open world Zelda game. That means more exploration, more quests and more time with Link. It’s ambitious and exactly what Nintendo needed to do to refreshen the franchise.
The game’s Japanese logo looks like a Studio Ghibli film. It’ awesome.
Aside from being the most expansive version of the Legend of Zelda series, Breath of the Wild also will feature some other possible new changes. There have long been rumors Link will be playable as both a female and male character in a move for exclusivity among gamers. It would be a welcome addition. Link is also shown wearing full body armor. Perhaps customizable armor sets in the new game? Let the cosplays begin.

There’s still not a ton known about the game, but considering how long it’s been delayed it’s welcome to not only get a trailer but a great trailer. If this is the future of the Zelda series, good things are about to come. Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild looks amazing. Can it be 2017 yet?
