Do you remember Boaty McBoatface?

The British research boat that the internet named since the council naming the boat opened up suggestions to the public? Now, that name has inspired similar ones, including an Australian racehorse now named “Horsey McHorseface”, because why the hell not?

“We had a laugh about it in the office and thought, ‘Hey, why not’,” racing manager Jake Bruce told CNN. “Joe’s a good bloke and he’s a good horse — we just thought it would be a good fit.”

Apparently, the New Zealand-bred horse has the only novelty name in the 82-horse yard, which is a bit surprising given how weird horseracing names can be. He’s expected to make his racing debut in May.

“Any publicity is good publicity,” said Bruce. “He’s got as good a chance as any to make it and we’d absolutely love to win with him on a big day. It would be a) hilarious and b) great for the owners.”

If you’re wondering, that polar research boat hasn’t officially been christened as Boaty McBoatface yet, so we’ll have to make due with the horse version for now.
