Who hasn’t had to run from one gate clear to the other end of an airport just to catch a flight before? It’s not exactly a fun experience and it usually happens when you can’t get access to one of the golf carts to take you to the gate either.

It appears that one company has a solution for you, and it is called the Modobag.

In today’s tech-driven world, having USB ports, realtime location tracking and other features are becoming all the rage. There’s even a term for it — smart luggage.

However, this would take smart luggage to a whole different level. It would allow you to ride the carryon bag at speeds at up to 8mph while charging your mobile devices and storing your luggage too.

Of course, this is going to come at a steep price and with the Indiegogo project launching recently, one can get in on the ground floor for the low-low price of $995. Yes, that is $1,000 for a single piece of luggage…but hey, you can ride the damn thing all over the airport.

To compare, other smart luggage companies are offering products for as little as $349 and upwards of $549. However, none of them are rideable luggage — advantage Modobag?

If the early Indiegogo results are any indication, the Modobag is a hit. As of this writing it has already raised over $70,000 by just 72 backers and bested its initial goal of a $50,000 investment level.

According to a report in The Verge, the bag has received TSA and FAA approval and that’s likely a good thing considering its battery situation and because it weighs 19…yes, 19 pounds folks.

Heck, for those of us who have had the displeasure of standing in a TSA security check line at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, saving the time on the feet may be worth the investment alone.
