This week in Kuwait, a homing pigeon carrying 178 pills of ecstasy was intercepted by customs officials. The 178 drug pills were wrapped in an adorable little backpack attached to the bird’s back.
According to Al Arabiya, the pigeon was stopped by officials above a building close to their offices. This of course leads us to many questions we will attempt to answer here without any further research:
1. How did the officials think to stop the pigeon? This was the first question that popped in my head since I couldn’t find a real answer to this. In the pictures the backpack seems to blend in well if you think about the bird flying 15-20 away from you. So why did the officials stop it? That leads us to…
2. How did they stop the bird? Seriously it’s not like they could say “hey bird come here” and it just magically came their way. Did they attract it with food? Seriously how did the bird go to them I am just asking.
3. What if the bird rebelled and didn’t go to his location? I know this must have been a trained homing pigeon, but that’s a pricey load on its back. What happens if the bird never got to its target destination and got intercepted by a different drug smuggling group? Seriously why did they trust a bird.
4. Why is this a story? Because this is 2017, and border security is a hot topic.
Walls don’t do anything and are pointless for stopping the real culprits: pigeons. Also known as rats with wings in my book.
Finally, here’s a cool video about carrier pigeons.
