Things were going well for 26-year-old golfer Julian Suri. After posting three top-three finishes since April on the European Challenge Tour, he was just about a lock to move up to the majors next season.

Unfortunately, fate seems to be working against him. While Suri made his way to Royal Birkdale this week for his Open Championship debut, Vueling Airlines lost his clubs. And that’s the fourth week in a row this has happened.

On the bright side, TaylorMade came to the rescue, getting some clubs together so Suri could keep competing. But that’s still not the same as using your own set.

The rising star didn’t let the change faze him during the pre-tournament practice rounds. From Golf Channel:

“I played with it [Tuesday],” Suri said, “and I managed not to lose any money in my practice round. So it was all good.”

This week Suri has needed to borrow some of the other essentials that were in his travel case – a foam roller, a tool to mark the line on his ball, alignment sticks. And TaylorMade even created a panel for him to slap on the front of his bag.

“It’s been an adjustment, that’s for sure,” Suri said.

Fortunately, Vueling Airlines redeemed itself just in time. Suri finally got his own clubs back on Wednesday, one day before the Open Championship begins. Still, he’s understandably a bit bitter about the whole thing.

No harm no foul, I guess.
