Brewers billboard

The Brewers got creative with their opening day hype this year, putting a large 3-D billboard on I-94 outside Miller Park. The billboard shows two groundskeepers pushing back a tarp that says “Opening Day 2017”, with more getting revealed each week.

Props to whoever created the billboard. Their 3-D design has convinced some drivers along I-94 that the groundskeepers were real people in real danger standing on a billboard.

How these people would be standing on the front face of the sign without falling is apparently something these concerned drivers never thought of. Also, while the people may look kind of real from down on the road, they must be giants to be so easily visible from far away.

Have some perspective, folks. Literally, in this case.

Here’s what Tyler Barnes, the Brewers’ VP of Communications, told WDJT Milwaukee:

“They’re not real people, but some folks thought that people were actually in some sort of peril up there. So we did get a couple of calls on that which was a little bit of fun. Nobody was ever in peril. Nobody was harmed in the making of the billboard.”

So the billboard has certainly succeeded in getting people hyped up, just about the wrong thing. The Brewers could be a fun team this year, and although they’re projected to miss the playoffs once again, they’re stocked with potential breakout talent.

We’ll see if, in homage to their billboard, they unravel week-by-week throughout the season.
