The Blue Jays have had a very disappointing season. Toronto opened the season with the fifth-highest payroll in baseball, and they’re currently in last place in the AL East. That’s bad! However, they’re taking on the Yankees this weekend, and they just managed to pick off Todd Frazier at second base using a version of the hidden ball trick.

That’s very good!

Here’s video; unsurprisingly, it takes everyone a while to figure out just what happened, because no one expects this to actually work in a major league game. The last time I saw it work was Babe Ruth baseball, when my friend Brent, playing first, feigned a throw back to the pitcher after a pick-off throw before slapping a Javy Baez-quick tag down as the runner stood up without calling time.

This is kind of like that, except with Ryan Goins instead of Brent, and Todd Frazier looking perturbed after it’s over:

Another look:

That is the correct attitude, Jonathan Soveta. Baseball should just entirely consist of hidden ball tricks, to be honest.
