Well, this sucks. Bryce Harper was doing what Bryce Harper always does, busting it down to first to beat out a grounder.

Unfortunately, with tonight’s rain in the Washington, D.C. area, the bag was slick, and spikes and wet bases don’t generally mix well:

That is horrible to see. Harper was removed from the game, having been carried off the field, and we await an update on his condition, but that kind of hyperextension is rarely a precursor to good news. Just about the only positive to take away from this is that it’s still early in August, and the Nationals have essentially locked up a playoff spot already, thanks to the putrid nature of the NL East.

Even if he were to miss six weeks or something like that, there’s a chance Harper would be able to make a playoff impact. Hopefully it’s much less than that, because otherwise, that would just suck.
