The Dodgers appeared to be headed for a rather uneventful win on Tuesday night in Phoenix, taking a 6-3 lead into the ninth inning against the Diamondbacks. It especially appeared that way after closer Kenley Jansen got two outs to start the inning. But Jansen — whose issues are concerning, despite what he says — walked the next two batters before giving up a game-tying homer to Arizona’s Chris Owings.

In the top of the 15th inning, the Dodgers finally broke the tie — after Yasiel Puig made an absurd play in the bottom of the 14th — on a single from the 39-year-old Chase Utley to score Cody Bellinger:

After the Dodgers took the lead, and after five and a half hours of baseball, you had to figure the game was over. But, the Diamondbacks rallied again. Nick Ahmed hit an RBI double with one out to tie the game back up, and two batters later, veteran catcher Jeff Mathis pinch-hit and smoked a Wilmer Font offering into left-center for a walk-off single:

The Diamondbacks came back from a 3-0 deficit, the 6-3 deficit with two outs in the ninth, and the 7-6 deficit in the 15th to win this bonkers game.

The game featured 17 pitchers, and the Dodgers were on their ninth pitcher by the 11th inning.

And the game time? Five hours and 46 minutes, good for the longest game in Chase Field history.
