This seemed inevitable – the fishtank behind the plate at Marlins Park finally was cracked by a foul ball.

Before you start getting worried about the fish, however, realize that the tank itself didn’t break – it was just the protective plexiglass in front of the tank.

WON’T SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK OF THE POOR FISH???

Imagine if, on the next pitch, JT Realmuto fouled another ball off into the exact same spot. That would have been quite a mess, and likely resulted in a delay to the game.

That didn’t end up happening, and the Marlins went on to beat the Diamondbacks 7-5.

Incidents like this have to be expected when you put a fishtank that close to home plate. Maybe it’s time for the Marlins to look into a thicker covering for the tank so it doesn’t happen again.
