foul ball

The most amazing play you will see this baseball season came in the form of a groundout to first base, in a Triple-A game.

Eric Campbell of the Las Vegas 51s (New York Mets affiliate) hit a groundball off the end of his bat on Thursday night, and the ball was well into foul territory near the first base dugout, before — somehow — spinning all the way back into fair territory. The play –somehow — resulted in an easy groundout to first base for the El Paso Chihuahuas (San Diego Padres affiliate).

Here’s video evidence of this witchcraft performed by the Chihuahuas:

If you’re wondering how this play is not a foul ball, as long as the ball goes back into fair territory before passing first base (or before it’s touched by a player/object in foul territory or stops moving), it’s a fair ball.

You’d think a play like that would signal it was the Chihuahuas’ night, but they fell by the score of 5-2 to the 51s.
