In Hunter Renfroe’s seventh big-league game, he did something that had never happened in a game at Petco Park, which opened in 2004.
Renfroe, a first-round pick by the San Diego Padres in 2013, crushed an offering from the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Jose De Leon that went down the left field line… and landed on the Western Metal Supply building roof. You may remember everyone being in awe of Baltimore Orioles slugger Mark Trumbo doing this during the Home Run Derby at Petco Park, so it’s that much more incredible that someone pulled it off in an actual game.
Here’s video of Renfroe’s massive dinger:
Last night’s dingers weren’t enough for @Hunter_Renfroe. He launched tonight’s 💣 to the roof of the Western Metal building 😳 pic.twitter.com/OKlFGCRtnd

Hunter Renfroe said he’s hit the Petco Park video board in BP, but he’d never pulled a home run on top of the Western Metal building.

Even the Hall of Famer Dick Enberg was blown away and gave it a very enthusiastic “Oh my!”, which is pretty much the greatest compliment an athlete can receive.
While it’s hardly surprising after seeing that blast, Renfroe has been on a tear since getting called up, with four homers, 12 RBI, and a 1.409 OPS in just 22 plate appearances over seven games.
