Pittsburgh Pirates rookie pitcher Jameson Taillon was hit in the head by a line drive off the bat of the Milwaukee Brewers’ Hernan Perez during the second inning of Tuesday night’s game at PNC Park. Taillon remained down on the ground for a couple minutes, but would incredibly end up staying in the game.

It’s a bit stunning that the Pirates would leave in their highly touted right-hander, even if he appeared to be fine. Is it really worth the risk? You’d think by now we would’ve learned that head injuries — or even just scares — are nothing to mess around with, and it would seem to be just about a miracle if there was nothing at all wrong with Taillon after taking a direct shot to the head by a 105-mph line drive. Again, maybe he is indeed just fine, but getting full-on examinations over just a two-minute check-up from a trainer would seem to be the wise decision here.

Either way, Taillon stayed in the game and pitched very well, throwing six innings with just one earned run allowed. So, impressive job by the rookie to overcome a nightmare moment to pitch a terrific game.
