Within a couple weeks, Jim Thome got elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame and the Cleveland Indians decided to do away with the Chief Wahoo logo starting in 2019. The timing gave Thome an opportunity to have some input on not only what team he’ll be inducted with (Indians obviously) but what cap he’ll wear when inducted. If Thome had it his way, it won’t be with Chief Wahoo.

Thome revealed at an event that he would prefer to wear the current Indians “Block C” cap instead of the “Chief Wahoo” cap he wore during his first 12 years in the big leagues. According to Thome, he hasn’t had any discussions with Cooperstown officials on how things should go but said he would make that viewpoint known before anything is decided.

“I know my decision would be to wear the ‘C’ because I think it’s the right thing to do,” Thome said. “I think I need to have a conversation with the Hall of Fame because of all the history and everything involved. I just think that’s the right thing to do.”

Thome has been rather consistent in his view of Chief Wahoo. Thome had been in support of getting rid of the logo and approved Indians officials for ending that. It’s unknown if the Hall of Fame will take his wishes into consideration but it seems like Thome would be cool with a more modern-looking cap for his place in immortality.
