It’s been three days since the world learned of the tragic death of Jose Fernandez, and the emotions are still raw for everyone involved, especially the Marlins themselves.

Today, as Fernandez’s body was driven through Miami in a public procession and memorial, the team surrounded the hearse as it made its way through the streets of Miami.

That moment alone will make anyone tear up. The crowd that had been chanting Fernandez’s name throughout the procession went silent as the team surrounded the hearse to say their final public goodbyes, and you could hear a pin drop as Jose’s family placed his All-Star Game jersey on the casket inside the hearse.

A private funeral will be held tomorrow for Fernandez, but the remembrances and memorials will continue for a long time. It’s still hard to believe that one of the most exciting young pitchers in the game is gone.
