To the victors, go the spoils. With extra cheese and sausage?

A day after winning the World Series, the Chicago Cubs returned home to get down to putting the finishing touches on their highly-anticipated championship parade plans. Doing so much work on little rest following a late-night World Series clincher that went an extra inning and waited out a brief rain delay can build an appetite pretty quickly. Knowing what it takes to satisfy that hunger, the Kansas City Royals arranged to send the Cubs a bunch of free pizza from the popular Chicago pizza chain, Giordano’s.

It turns out, the Royals were actually continuing what may be a new tradition in Major League Baseball. A year ago, after the Royals captured the World Series by knocking off the New York Mets, the San Francisco Giants sent a bunch of pizza to the Royals’ staff. The Giants won the World Series the previous season, defeating Kansas City. So the Giants started the good deed, and the Royals passed it on.

If this is going to be a new post-World Series tradition, It’s a pretty darn cool one to have. It’s not exactly like handing the Stanley Cup off to the new hockey champion, but it is a great gesture between franchises. It is also a nice reward for the staffers that so often do not get the credit they deserve for the work they do behind the scenes taking care of the things no fans really care about. This one’s for you, underappreciated and overlooked staffer!
