Curses aren’t supposed to have any loopholes, the Cubs may have found one in the infamous Curse of the Billy Goat.

Outfielder Matt Szczur isn’t on the Cubs NLCS roster but he has been the rallying cry for the team. Anthony Rizzo used his bat in Game 4 and helped him break out of a massive slump, smashing a key home run.

It doesn’t stop there though. After a dynamic regular season, Addison Russell has also been in a slump as of late, and he was willing to try anything. That “anything” apparently included wearing Szczur’s underwear during Games 4 and 5. That little tidbit was revealed during an in-game interview FS1 had with Szczur during Friday’s game.

Well Russell collected two hits in Game 5, including a two-run home run in the sixth inning that broke a 1-1 tie.

Exactly how far does the luck of Szczur go?

The Cubs themselves clearly believe in the good luck charm, as they tweeted acknowledging the powers of Szczur.

This may end up being karma helping Szczur out. Back in 2010, he donated bone marrow that ended up saving a young girl’s life in Ukraine. Anastasia, the young girl whose life has been saved, eventually ended up meeting with Szczur and thanking him for helping her.

Szczur has been full of luck so far in the playoffs. As the Cubs continue to inch their way closer to the World Series, what else can they possibly take from this guy? Don’t be surprised if Jason Heyward shows up out in the field in Szczur’s uniform.
