One of the overlooked changes in the new Major-League Baseball collective bargaining agreement? The players per diem.
According to ESPN the previous per diem was $105 a day on the road. It has now gone all the way down to $30 a day. This change seems to be rubbing players the wrong way.
When contacted by ESPN, most of the players were unaware of the change and were none to happy.
“I doubt many guys know about the money going down, nor would they have agreed to it,” said one of several players contacted, all of whom said they were unaware of and unhappy about the change.
And here’s what pitcher Brett Anderson had to say:

Yikes.
An interesting note is the fact that until the deal is officially ratified, the CBA is subject to change. Could this be something that sets some of the players off? It would seem silly, but if they feel like they are being short-changed in any way it could be up for discussion.
Or maybe the players will just settle for cheaper dinners.
