Minor league baseball teams have drawn a lot of attention and popularity in recent years for specialty uniforms, with jerseys following themes such as Batman, Star Wars, Teenage Mutant Ninja TurtlesRen and Stimpy and David Bowie, But the caps on minor league uniforms have been a virtual blank canvas, likely because teams have a lot of money invested in those logos and brands.

The Montgomery Biscuits, Double-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, have a great logo, depicting a cartoon biscuit with googly eyeballs eating a pat of butter. It’s arguably the best in minor league baseball. But what about getting creative with that cap? The Biscuits put it to their fans, holding a “Design a Hat Contest.” And the winning result was strangely appealing.

Yes! A hat that looks like an actual biscuit. Brilliant! Should a baseball cap make you hungry? Will it smell like buttery dough as well? (Maybe that would get kind of gross on those hot summer days in Montgomery or over the course of a full season.) The only possible recommendation to add is a bill designed to look like bacon or country ham.

Could the Biscuits license that design to other companies known for selling biscuits? Employees at places like Bojangles, Hardee’s or maybe even McDonald’s would surely love getting to sport a biscuit hat at work. (Those golden arches could go well with the biscuit design.) Or maybe not. But wouldn’t it be fun to add some cool to those uniforms?

The Montgomery Biscuits Biscuit Caps aren’t yet available for sale. The team plans to make them available in Spring 2017 before the season begins.
