Red Sox photographer hit in the balls

We’ve seen plenty of first pitches go awry, but none have been as bad as this. Red Sox fan Jordan Leandre has quite the inspirational story. He survived cancer as a child and now plays for his high school baseball team. The Red Sox gave Leandre a well-deserved honor of throwing out the first pitch at Wednesday’s game against the Cardinals, but either nerves or some slippage got to him as the ball went sailing toward the backstop and right into an innocent photographer’s crotch.

Where does it rank among the worst first pitches we’ve seen? You can decide that for yourself.

Props to the photographer, Tony Capobianco, for standing his ground as the pitch was coming his way. And you know he saw it coming, as evidenced by this picture he snapped just before contact occurred.

Fortunately, the errant pitch didn’t appear to cause Capobianco any serious harm.
