Baseball is not a contact sport. However, sometimes players do end up colliding on the field when trying to make a play, and the results can often be pretty horrifying.
That’s what happened at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday, when Rickie Weeks and Brett Gardner collided near the first base bag.

Gardner tapped a ball back to the mound, and pitcher Xavier Cedeno turned to throw to second. But no one was covering the bag, and Cedeno instead had to throw to first. His throw was low, and took first baseman Rickie Weeks into the baseline. Gardner smashed into Weeks, knocking both men down.
Both Gardner and Weeks immediately left the game, and there was no immediate update on either man’s condition. It. did not look good, though.
