After an excruciatingly poor start to his season last year, Seattle Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano has come out of the gates flaming hot in 2016. The 33-year-old has gone deep four times in three consecutive games to start the season including two home runs yesterday in a 9-5 victory over the Texas Rangers, with his latest outburst inspired by a trash-talker.

Reddit user atr0038 said he was at yesterday’s game and that Cano’s second home run was directly fueled by a behind the plate trash talker.

“I was sitting in the sixth row at this game behind home plate slightly to the left, the best seats I’ve ever had. This guy was talking huge shit to Cano right to his face when he was on deck in the 9th. Cano stared him down and was pissed. After he hit that HR, he pointed at the guy on the way back to the dugout.”

Another user confirmed the story, saying the trash-talker was heckling him, telling the former All-Star he sucked.

“Yep, that was it! The guy said, “You suck Cano, and you’re going to choke. That’s why the Yankees got rid of your ass” and continued to talk crap to him, right in front of the netting. The way Cano was looking at that dude, and swinging the bat today, I knew he was going to homer.”

Cano pointing to the fan was captured by SB Nation’s Jose Rivera.

Honestly, it’s not a great idea for a fan to try to taunt a player, especially one of Cano’s caliber. The trash-talker ending up looking bad and potentially gave Cano the juice to hit another home run – which is the opposite of what a heckler hopes to accomplish.
