While most politicians bet obscure, overly culturally relevant items when it comes to big-time sporting events, one senator from Illinois and one from Ohio are keeping it simple for this year’s World Series.
Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) and Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL) have announced they are betting a case of beer for this year’s World Series. Portman is offering Great Lakes Oktoberfest, while Kirk is betting a case of Goose Island 312.
Sen Portman (R-OH) and Sen Kirk (R-IL) will wager a case of Great Lakes Oktoberfest beer against a case of Goose Island 312 on World Series.

While both made a good effort to try and promote their state’s local beer selection, Kirk’s choice seems kind of weak. Though Goose Island is known as a Chicago beer, the brand is now a part of Anheuser-Busch and can be found across the country. There had to have been a more local choice than Goose Island.
Either way, this is a fun bet and seems pretty normal. May the best team win, and may the winning senator enjoy a nice beer.
