The Philadelphia Phillies can not stop hitting baseballs into trash cans.

Last week, Phillies infielder Freddy Galvis hit a ground-rule double against the San Diego Padres which bounced right into a bullpen trash can. The chances of it happening seemed to be one in a million. Well, lightning has struck twice.

On Wednesday, Taylor Featherston was batting against Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Scott Kazmir. He was challenged with a pitch near the middle of the plate, but only made enough contact to foul the ball back into the Phillies dugout. A common play turned spectacular, as the ball managed to land in the Phillies dug out trash can, much to the delight of players on the bench.

The easy joke here is the Phillies are trash, which is why they keeping hitting balls there. But, considering Philadelphia is just ten games under .500 at 53-63, their performance has been much better than anyone could have expected. Is the team good? No, not really. Are they complete trash? Surprisingly not.

Philadelphia hitting balls into trash cans is impressive, just because it’s something rarely seen. Doing it twice in less than a week is unlikely and impressive. Lets see if they can do it again soon, to complete the hat trick.
