Here’s something you might not ever see again.

The Los Angeles Dodgers were facing off against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday night, when a Ross Stripling wild pitch in the dirt resulted in a scored a run, despite not ever making it past catcher Yasmani Grandal. Yes, a wild pitch that wasn’t so wild. How did a run score? The ball got lodged in Grandal’s chest protector.

As you can see, the ball bounced near home plate, hit Grandal in the mask (knocking it off) and slid down his chest protector. Grandal looks for the ball in confusion not realizing where it went. It was just enough time for Jake Lamb to score on the play, giving the Dodgers an early 2-0 lead in the fourth.

It’s a bizarre play. The chances of it happening are so slim. It had to go through a comedy of errors – off the plate, off Grandal’s mask and into the protector. Official scorers called it a wild pitch, probably the correct call given no error was made on the play. It was just a fluke.

The Dodgers ended up having the last laugh, scoring 10 runs in their final three innings at the plate, decimating the Diamondbacks 14-3. Still, Arizona might be laughing watching the replay back, because it’s so darn weird.
