Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras has spent the last three weeks on the disabled list with a strained hamstring. Anyone who’s out of work for an extended period needs to find entertaining ways to fill his time.

Following in the tradition of a modern athletic pastime, Contreras slid into former porn star Mia Khalifa’s in an attempt to strike up a conversation rife with kissy face and fire emojis. It didn’t go well.

Contreras’ representation at Octagon Baseball claimed his Twitter account was hacked and are working to resolve the matter, according to Deadspin. That’s the go-to explanation whenever anything goes wrong on social media, but even if Contreras was hacked, you think he’d notice a notification saying Khalifa DM’d him back.

Khalifa has a history of insulting athletes on social media. She blasted former Ole Miss quarterback Chad Kelly (now with the Broncos) following a loss to Florida State, and then roasted him when he did not receive a draft combine invite. She also called the Sixers a bunch of losers in response to a photo Joel Embiid posted to Instagram.

The 25-year-old Contreras failed to pick up the signals Khalifa was putting down, such as never responding except to say “bye.” We’ll see if getting called out publicly will end his efforts.
