In 2011, we found out that Michael Jordan used the written word to get at the hearts of his romantic interests.

Five years later, you can now have first-hand proof of Jordan’s writing ability. A love poem Jordan once wrote went up for auction this week. The bidding began at $1,000 on Wednesday and is already up to $1,400.

The poem is just a few lines and is much shorter than the pages-long love letter revealed in 2011. It is also believed that this poem features one of earliest known Jordan signatures. Here’s how the love poem goes:

Only you can brighten my day
Only you can show me the way
Only you can except (sic) my love
You and the great man above
Only you can kiss me on my cheeks
When I with you, I never fear defeat
I hope you grow very, very tall
Because right now you haven’t grown at all
My face shows happiness and blue
Because I will love “Only You.”

Ignoring the grammatical errors and such, the poem is good for a high schooler whose main focus was basketball. The lines about height, however, are rather creepy and couldn’t have exactly excited his romantic interest.

But despite the poem’s shortfalls, this piece of literary magic will likely go for more than its current $1,400 listing. Jordan’s love letter went for more than $5,000.
