Bill Russell

No matter what happens in the future of basketball, Bill Russell will always be in the conversation about the greatest of all time. The dude won 11 titles in 13 seasons, including two as a player-coach, to go along with five MVPs. As an add-on, he also won back-to-back NCAA titles, including an undefeated 1955-56 season.

During Monday’s NBA awards show on TNT, Russell received a lifetime achievement award presented by a group of legendary Hall-of-Fame big men—Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Shaquille O’Neal, David Robinson, Dikembe Mutombo and Alonzo Mourning. Upon accepting the award, Russell sized up his younger counterparts and said into the mic:

“I would kick your ass!”

That’s just savage. Between this and a shirtless LaVar Ball taking over WWE Raw, it doesn’t get much better than this for a summer sports night.

Is the Big 3 allowing midseason free agent pickups? Russell may be 83 years old, but you can never underestimate the heart of a champion.
