NBA free agency is one of the most hectic times of the year. Countless rumors swirl the internet, some that hold truth more than others.

An ESPN report by Brian Windhorst on Thursday said that the Oklahoma City Thunder were going to try to bring Al Horford to their city to pair him with Kevin Durant, making the Thunder a more attractive destination for the league’s most sought-after free agent.

So naturally, when Horford followed Durant on Twitter, people flipped:

This could be a whole lot of something, or a whole lot of nothing. People made a big mess out of when LeBron James unfollowed the Cleveland Cavaliers, among others during the regular season (he still doesn’t follow the Cavaliers).

But the reasoning behind Brian Windhorst’s report could reasonably strike consideration into some:

Horford played for Thunder coach Billy Donovan at Florida, where they teamed up to win two national titles, and they remain close. The Thunder have an opening at power forward after trading Serge Ibaka to the Orlando Magic last week.

Before today, Oklahoma City was not a destination many had considered for Horford, but in reading Windhorst’s report, it doesn’t seem like such a far-fetched scenario. But one thing is for sure, and it’s that Durant holds all the cards.
