On Tuesday night, the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Boston Celtics 112-99 in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals, clinching a trip to the NBA Finals.

Well, some of that is true – Cleveland did win the game by that score, but since they lost Game 3, they won’t be able to advance to the Finals until Thursday night.

No one told that to Dick’s Sporting Goods, however. After Cleveland’s Game 4 victory, Dick’s put Cavs NBA Finals merchandise up for sale on their website. Whoops.

Yahoo did some digging and found there was plenty of merchandise on the website proclaiming the Cavaliers as Eastern Conference champions, including t-shirts, hats, and lanyards.

Maybe Dick’s can roll all of that merchandise out on Thursday night. But if the Celtics win and they push out the Cavs merchandise again, Dick’s should probably just shut it down.

At least this isn’t as embarrassing as putting out Falcons Super Bowl champions gear before they blew a 28-3 lead.

  1. No “blunder” here by Dick’s, the folks who card you on receipted returns. I don’t like the arrogant marketing move but it was no mistake (“whoops”). Try crass calculation. They’re moving it as I type and you helped ’em do it, Joe. So expect a DSG beer-bottle cozy in the mail as a ‘thanks.’
