James Harden

The growing trend in the NBA seems to be building a super team if you can, as Golden State has just done in adding Kevin Durant to its already potent offense featuring Steph Curry. Superstars teaming up with each other has been a point of discussion and debate recently as a result. In an open letter to Houston Rockets fans, James Harden made it perfectly clear he is invested in building a winner in Houston, whether or not Houston becomes a target for a similar superstar line-up.

Harden, who took a more direct shot at the Warriors in a press conference over the weekend after signing a contract extension with the Rockets, continued to throw shade at a Western Conference foe standing in the way of his Rockets and a chance at an NBA championship.

“I can assure you our Team will work hard together, grow together, build together, compete together, and pursue our ultimate goal – another Championship for H-Town – together,” Harden wrote, clearly emphasizing the togetherness concept the Houston roster will have to build on. “We are not a ‘super-team,’ but just a group of guys that want to work hard to be the very best,” Harden added, taking apparent aim at Golden State and any other franchise looking to build a winner overnight through free agency.

It is a mild shot at best from Harden and hardly anything more than an attempt to boost the approach Houston is pursuing by any means necessary. Remember that Houston has already parted ways with Dwight Howard and were left out of the Kevin Durant sweepstakes in the end. Houston has failed to build its own super-team, but has found a way to build with what they have in hopes of establishing a winning path in the long run.
