It looks like Joel Embiid’s public feud with NBA helicopter dad LaVar Ball will cost the Sixers’ center $10,000.

The NBA announced Saturday it will fine Embiid $10,000 for “using inappropriate language on social media,” and though the league didn’t announce the exact offense, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out he’s being punished for saying, “Fuck LaVar Ball” on Instagram last week.

Here’s the video that almost certainly got Embiid in trouble:

Yeah, he’s probably not the only person out there who’s wanted to say that.

Embiid’s tiff with LaVar began the night of the NBA Draft, when Embiid tweeted his desire for someone (maybe himself!) to dunk all over Ball’s son Lonzo. LaVar responded by calling Embiid fragile and later insulted the center’s vocabulary and intelligence.

Emiid is probably the NBA’s most exciting social-media presence, and it’s a bit sad to see him punished for it. Having been fined five figures for being his bombastic, hilarious self, you have to imagine he’ll consider toning things down moving forward.

The world is a better place when Joel Embiid is tweeting and Instagramming his heart out. Hopefully the NBA doesn’t scare him so much that he stops.
