When Kevin Durant announced he was leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder for the team he nearly beat in the playoffs, the Golden State Warriors, Thunder fans found unique ways to get back at him.

Some of Durant’s once faithful fans in OKC took to Yelp! to slam Durant’s restaurant and the results were hilarious.

Well, Durant noticed and now he’s making changes. The Warriors’ star closed his restaurant temporarily on Sunday July 24th to improve anything and everything necessary to bring people back. The new and improved restaurant should open after Labor Day.

“The concept will offer an updated atmosphere with a similar menu to what has been available at that location in the past,” the Hal Smith Restaurant Group, who helps run the restaurant, said.

“It has been an honor — and a lot of fun — to partner with Kevin Durant at Kd’s these last few years,” Hal Smith, founder and CEO of the Oklahoma-based restaurant group said in a statement. “We wish him the very best as he takes a new direction in his career.”

While KD’s has stayed busy since Durant announced his move to Golden State, the ownership of the restaurant has been considering a renovation and improvements for some time, The Oklahoman wrote.

Durant owned 25% of KD’s when it opened, but the percentage he owns now is unclear. Based on the announcements, it seems like Durant’s departure and the improvements happened to coincide. It’s unclear if the two have anything to do with one another.

The Hal Smith Restaurant Group said the new name, details, and concept will be announced in August.

“Our restaurant has become a tradition for many in our community for an evening out or to celebrate a special occasion, which is an honor we don’t take lightly. We know our guests, we listen to them, and we think they’ll be really pleased with this transition,” Smith said. “We plan to maintain the majority of our current menu, and there’s no doubt our famous fried chicken and other favorites will be back.”

The restaurant is located roughly half a mile from the home of the Thunder, Chesapeake Energy Arena, in downtown Oklahoma City.
