Russell Westbrook was hosting a basketball camp for kids in Oklahoma City on Saturday when the kids began chanting for him to dunk.

This is a perfectly reasonable demand for kids in close proximity to an NBA star. Westbrook obliged, after taking a few moments to size up just how exactly he wanted to throw one down for the youngsters:

Going with the “toss the ball high, then catch and finish on the bounce” is always fun, though for dunk contests, it rarely gets rewarded for the extra layer of difficulty and precision involved. Still, the kids got to see Russ throw one in.

And yet, because these are children, they were not satisfied, and they decided to call for something a bit more challenging than a dunk. Which, yes, for mortals a dunk is challenging, but this is relative to Russ’s skillset. He can dunk a ball 100 times out of 100. But nailing a half-court shot? That’s a bit more random, even for Westbrook. And yet that’s what the kids want, and say whatever you want about Westbrook, but he didn’t disappoint the campers.

The “MVP! MVP!” chants really make the scene, as does Westbrook’s “wrestling heel” call to the crowd of kids.

That’s really cool, and a side of Westbrook we don’t normally get to see, although frankly it’s probably for the best we didn’t get video of Russ playing with the campers. It’s highly possible he doesn’t know any other speed but all out, and there’d probably be plenty of carnage.
