Like many Clevelanders, LeBron James was disappointed the Indians couldn’t claim victory in Game 7 of the World Series.

Speaking with ESPN.com, the Cavaliers star, who’s been on the other side of a blown 3-1 series lead, admitted it was tough to see his hometown city’s team lose Game 7 and the World Series.

“That’s probably the worst thing about sports is when you have such an epic game, one team has to lose.”

I’m not sure LeBron, who attended Game 7 live with Cavaliers teammates, would be saying the same thing if Cleveland won the trophy, but his sportsmanship is on point.

He did admit the series was great for both Chicago and Cleveland.

“The result is definitely not what I wanted and what the city wanted, but as a fan, extra innings in a World Series Game 7, it doesn’t get any better in baseball,” James said. “It’s just a great time in sports right now that you’re able to witness these droughts being ended. I mean, you look at the long drought the Cubs went through. You look at ours, or our city. It’s a great time in sports for two Midwestern cities, especially. Being in Chicago and being in Cleveland, it’s great for the fan bases.”

James shared pride in the Indians’ title run, pointing out Cleveland’s season was “a success” despite not winning it all. The 31-year-old has experienced title losses of his own, only to rebound stronger than ever. I’m sure he’s hoping the Indians are capable of doing the same.
