Earlier Thursday, documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock admitted to repeated sexual misconducts, including being accused of rape in college, settling a lawsuit with an assistant for calling her sexually suggestive names and “being unfaithful to every wife and girlfriend I have ever had.”

Unlike many others who have been accused of similar things, Spurlock admitted to what he did. Was it a PR move to get in front of a story knowing something was bound to come out? Was it an actual case of self-enlightenment that after seeing so many people bravely reveal their story, Spurlock realized what he did was wrong? That may not be seen until we see how he acts, and hopefully changes in the future, but it has resulted in LeBron James and his production company to sever ties with Spurlock on a current project the two groups had been working on.

Reported by ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, James and Spurlock had been working on a documentary series about the opening of LeBron’s “I Promise School.”

In light of director Morgan Spurlock’s admission to a history of sexual misconduct, SpringHill Entertainment — LeBron James’ production company — has cut ties with Spurlock on the release of a planned docu-series focusing on the opening of James’ I Promise School in Akron, OH in the fall of 2018. “SpringHill Entertainment will be canceling its production agreement with Morgan Spurlock and Warrior Poets. We will continue moving forward to tell the important story of the I Promise School,” said a spokesman for SpringHill Entertainment in a statement issued to ESPN on Thursday.

This was really the only move LeBron’s production company could make. Despite Spurlock’s admission, it’s definitely not something that should garner sympathy because what he did was still reprehensible. Admitting to it helps, but it’s still not worth a free pass.
