Mark Cuban is mad at NBA ref Ken Mauer, wants Mauer to 'ref a game in the D-League'

Mark Cuban is a very outspoken man. He publicly bashed Donald Trump during the campaign and isn’t afraid to speak his mind about the NBA. Speaking of the NBA, he’s now turned on NBA referee Ken Mauer.

The funny thing is, Cuban is mad at Mauer for a call he made during a game that didn’t even happen during a Dallas Mavericks’ game. The Mavs’ owner instead was stunned at a missed call that should’ve been made during the opening possession of Tuesday’s Clippers-Nets game in Brooklyn:

“Suspend him, demote him, make him ref a game in the D-League,” Cuban said during his pregame workout Wednesday night.

The high profile owner didn’t mention Mauer by name, but instead stated he watched the video that went viral of Bojan Bogdanovic’s double dribble. You know, this one:

Mauer is right there and is staring at Bogdanovic when the play happens. Later in the game, the referee got an earful from Clippers’ coach Doc Rivers and tossed him (and Doc lost his mind).

“That call? At the beginning of the game? Right in front of him?” Cuban said. “That wasn’t an error in judgment.

“Refs are going to miss things because there’s other things going on, but there was nothing else going on. It was the first or second play of the game, and he was standing right there.”

“This wasn’t just a missed call. This was something else… I don’t know what it was. Sometimes it’s the problem; sometimes it’s the symptom of a problem. I think this is more reflective of a symptom of a problem.”

Cuban most likely will be fined by the league for his comments. Since buying Dallas back in January of 2000, Cuban’s fine total has risen to the seven figures level.

When asked why would care about officiating that took place in a game that didn’t involve his beloved Mavericks, Cuban made a great point:

“Because the quality of officiating matters in this game, you know?” Cuban said. “Standings are impacted. Mistakes happen. Lots of calls are hard, but not all of them. Some of them are just lack of focus and attention, and that’s the one thing you should be able to avoid at all times, particularly from such an experienced ref.”

Never change, Mark Cuban. Never change.
