It’s the offseason in the NBA, and it seems the Sacramento Kings are finding ways to kill some time in the art department as we all await the start of a new season. With football preseason underway, the Kings let the imagination flow and shared some football helmets inspired by NBA franchises. Some of the results are better than others.

We have seen these types of mashups time and time again, and the results are almost always mixed. However, what was shared on the Kings’ website showed off some truly great hypothetical helmet designs.

I was particularly fond of this design using the Kings’ retro design as the inspiration…

The more modern take on the Kings’ football helmet wasn’t too shabby either…

This Memphis Grizzlies design was also a strong entry…

This New York Knicks helmet looks like a Syracuse helmet had a Knicks decal slapped on it, and that’s not exactly a complaint.

However, I have to say I think this Knicks helmet is a perfect artist’s rendering of the current state of the Knicks. It sucks.

Getting back on track, this is a fine look for the Spurs…

But one of my favorite helmets shared by the Kings may have been this one for the Charlotte Hornets.

I’d love to see some more. There were a number of teams not included in this collection, including the Lakers, Celtics, and 76ers. I generally roll my eyes at the hypothetical helmet and uniform designs, but I would be interested to see more.
