Russell Westbrook during the NBA Global Games Spain 2016 match between FC Barcelona Lassa and Oklahoma City Thunder at Palau Blaugrana on October 5, 2016 in Barcelona, Spain.

The debut of Kevin Durant in a Golden State Warriors uniform did not exactly go according to plan for the defending Western Conference champions. The Warriors were throttled by San Antonio in the season opener.

Durant’s departure from Oklahoma City was a big storyline, as has his relationship status with former teammates from the Thunder. Russell Westbrook says he didn’t bother to tune in to see how Durant and his new team did Tuesday night.

“I was doing something you guys probably don’t want to hear about,” Westbrook said when asked what he was doing instead of watching any basketball on the NBA’s opening night.

“I played cards, man. I was just chilling, minding my own business, eating a nice dinner, talking to my wife on the phone.”

OK, that sounds fair enough. These guys are professional basketball players after all. They get enough of a basketball fill with their jobs, and sometimes you need to take advantage of the down time you do have. But just to be sure, Westbrook continued to run down his activities in as much detail as he was willing to share.

“Took a nice shower,” Westbrook added. “I used Dove soap. Brushed my teeth, washed my face and went to sleep. Put a movie on before I went to sleep, and that’s what I did.”

It is worth noting Westbrook and the Thunder are in Philadelphia to open their season against the Sixers, which is another excuse for not staying up late to watch some west coast basketball action. Rest assured, even though Westbrook claims he had no interest in what happened, it is unlikely he had absolutely no clue. Someone around the Thunder must have at least mentioned it around Westbrook, right?

Can we just fast forward to the first game between the Thunder and Warriors already?
