Over the years, Steve Kerr has been very vocal on having gun control in the United States. After the tragedy in Parkland, Florida, Kerr is teaming up with local politicians to have a discussion about gun violence.
According to The Mercury News, Kerr is going to meet students at Newark Memorial High School, which is a high school in Silicon Valley. Kerr will be joined by Representative Ro Khanna as they will speak to students in a town hall meeting format.
Kerr has been vocal about sensible gun control for decades but has especially increasingly spoken up with the increase in mass shootings and in particular school shootings. And given the President’s and NRA’s reluctance in doing anything other than giving “thoughts and prayers” to even try and curb gun violence. In some cases, like overturning a law so people with serious mental health conditions can purchase firearms, it’s made easier to buy a gun.
“All these things are safety issues and I think we somehow get our government cut through all the crap and get right to the point — the point of fact, which is safety,” Kerr said in November. “Which means a lot of things we can do without taking away people’s 2nd amendment rights. Let’s do the sensible thing.”
Kerr’s activism about gun violence was formed after his father was assassinated in Beirut, Lebanon in a terrorist attack in 1984 while he was president of the American University of Beirut.
