Former Houston Rockets point guard Steve Francis is in some legal trouble after police issued a warrant for his arrest Monday.

Francis was arrested back in June after he stole more than $7,000 worth of goods and cash from a parked BMW. According to TMZ, Francis asked a bartender for a flashlight and proceeded to break into the car and steal random items, from a gold diamond band to a makeup pouch. The former NBA All-Star turned himself into police just two days after the incident. It appeared police didn’t want to pursue Francis after he admitted guilt and turned in all the stolen possessions, but a recent DWI arrest has reopened the case. Via Uproxx:

Francis reportedly brought everything to the authorities in a bag and said I just robbed somebody, take me to jail. I’m turning myself in.” However, the police apparently decided to let him go and only recently decided to put a warrant out for his arrest. This, per TMZ, is because “officials in Florida caught wind of the fact Francis was arrested in Houston for DWI over the weekend and are now trying to extradite him.”

Francis has had a tough go of it post-NBA career. After falling out of the league at 30 and playing a single-season in China, the former star point guard has come in public light for his aggressively aged-looking appearance. While that might be unfair, the 39-year-old’s latest run-ins with the law just make the situation seem more bizarre. If he’s struggling with his day-to-day life, hopefully, the arrest is the wake-up call he needs to turn things around.
