As Baylor continues to navigate through multiple investigations into their football program, a non-profit organization has stepped forward calling for an overhaul of the Baylor board of regents.

The organization is led by multiple alumni and big name donors including former Houston Astros owner Drayton McLane, the namesake on Baylor’s stadium.

“Bears for Leadership reform” is the name of the organization and they are demanding “transparency and accountability” according to spokeswoman Julie Hillrichs.

Hillrichs explained why exactly the group was formed and it isn’t just about football.

“They believe the only way we can do this is to have true reform of the board. They want a seat at the table when the board selects its next president, and then they want a best-in-class Title IX program on that campus.”

Removing the current board of regents would be a step in the right direction but having another organization step up and try to influence the school should be met with some trepidation.

As the investigations remain ongoing, the campus is trying to come to terms with the amount of sexual assaults that have taken place over the past six years. Former Title IX director Patty Crawford told ESPN that over 400 have taken place on the campus, while the board of regents says the number is closer to 125. Both Crawford and the board of regents have said that about ten percent of those sexual assaults involve athletes.

As Baylor continues to toil in purgatory during these investigations, something needs to change. A removal of the entire board could be a step in the right direction for the school.
