It’s always something with the Baylor football, isn’t it? The sexual assault scandal surrounding the program has been a complete embarrassment, and now video has emerged of a wide receiver beating a dog.

Ishmael Zamora is the player in question, and the video was shared on another football player’s snapchat before being acquired by KXXV in Waco. You can view the video on their website, but be warned it’s very graphic and disturbing.

A fellow student, Shelby Ball, saw the video and immediately reported the incident to animal control in Waco.

“I went to authorities probably about two hours after I saw the video,” Ball said. “Dogs can’t speak for themselves… I felt like something needed to be done.”

Documents regarding the incident show that the athletic department was aware of the incident, and Zamora said that he was only trying to “discipline” the dog.

“I lost my temper trying to discipline him,” Zamora said in a statement released to KXXV. “I’ve been through training with a dog trainer to help me learn new potty training tips.”

Ball doesn’t buy it.

“I can’t imagine anybody who loves their dog and treats their dog well, hitting their dog against the face because they had an accident in the house,” she said.

Zamora was charged with a misdemeanor and issued a $500 fine. The dog is now living with relatives of Zamora’s in Houston.

It seems that in the lead-up to the new season, the talk about Baylor’s football team is centered on everything not taking place on a football field.
