Once again, Bill Murray is rooting for Xavier. Murray prominently cheered for the Musketeers last year, which just happened to be his son Luke’s first season as an assistant coach for the team. With Xavier back in the NCAA tournament this year, Murray’s back watching again, and providing plenty of great moments in the process.

During Thursday’s win against Maryland, Murray and the Musketeers weren’t messing around. Both groups were looking good while moving on and had the outsiders salivating at the expertise of this crew. Here’s Murray during Xavier’s 76-65 win over the Terrapins:

This is far from the first sports connection Murray’s had, from his regular participation in the Pebble Beach Pro-Am to his roles in movies from Caddyshack to Space Jam. But let’s hope the Musketeers don’t follow his “I don’t play defense” strategy:

Still, Murray’s fandom here is real. It’s great to see him supporting his son, and it’s hard not to love his enthusiasm. It’s almost worth rooting for Xavier to advance because of Murray.

Of course, we already rooted for one of Murray’s team. His presence during the Cubs’ World Series run was wellnoted. Will he bring the Musketeers the same kind of luck? They’re next in action Saturday against Florida State; we’ll see if Murray shows up again.
