D.J. Chark Jr.'s catch against Texas A&M was one of his best.

LSU Tigers’ senior receiver D.J. Chark Jr. has made plenty of outstanding catches this season, but perhaps his best came Saturday against the Texas A&M Aggies. With LSU facing first-and-10 near midfield, quarterback Danny Etling dropped back and threw deep for Chark, who used his speed to get a step on his defender.

The throw was ahead of Chark, but he somehow managed to stretch out and haul it in for a 48-yard reception:

The commentary from announcers Tom Hart and Jordan Rodgers illustrates just how impressive this was, with Hart wondering “How did that drop into Chark’s basket?” and Rodgers saying “Unbelievable. Tom, that is such a difficult catch. That’s like Willie Mays in center field.”

While it’s a vastly different sport and stage, there certainly are some similarities to the famous over-the-shoulder catch Mays made for the New York Giants in the 1954 World Series:

Heading into this game, Chark had 30 receptions for 725 yards and two touchdowns this year, plus 10 carries for 56 yards and another touchdown and 14 punt returns for 191 yards and two touchdowns. He’s made plenty of remarkable catches over his career, but this one stands out, especially with it coming on the Tigers’ Senior Day. And it led to a touchdown that put LSU up 13-0.
